Juniors Marilyn Fiallos and Hanna Hirano earned medals in the Boomilever event at Yale's 6th annual Connecticut State Science Olympiad tournament, held in New Haven, Connecticut, on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Boomilever is a structural building event that requires participants to design and build a boomilever that is able to support the greatest mass in relation to its weight. All boomilevers are scored based on their efficiency. Fiallos and Hirano constructed one of the top boomilevers entered into the tournament in order to medal.
During the competition, Alejandro Ortega and Nicholas Francis were featured by a local news station, WTNH News 8, as they competed against Science Olympiad teams from all over the United States.
