Juniors Austin Cooper and Zach Dumas were selected as representatives for the 2020 Florida American Legion Boys’ State, a highly selective educational program. Alex Dumas, also a junior, was selected as an alternate representative from Broward County.

Founded in 1935, Boys State is a participatory program that teaches young men the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. During the weeklong program, participants also learn about various topics, including the structure of city, county and state governments, as well as law and court systems, parliamentary procedure and Florida political history.

Cooper and Dumas will spend a week of their summer at Florida State University in Tallahassee collaborating with hundreds of other representatives from around the state.

Last year, seniors Sazzad Mabud and Merit Hajdic served as Broward County representatives for Boys State and were members of the House of Representatives.
