Cardinal Gibbons Girls' Track and Field Team Wins Second District Title in Program History

The Cardinal Gibbons girls' track and field team earned their second-ever district title after competing at the FHSAA 2A District 14 meet held at Calvary Christian Academy on April 15. The girls' team earned a total of 161 points, finishing nearly 70 points ahead of second-place Calvary Christian and 84 points ahead of third-place North Broward Prep. 

Sophomores Sydney Sinclair and Akerah Jones, as well as junior Isis Lewis, earned individual district titles in their respective events. Sinclair won the Girls 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:26.18 while also placing fourth in the 1600 Meter Run. Akerah Jones earned two individual district titles, taking first in the Girls 100 and 300 Meter Hurdles events, and Isis Lewis won the Girls' Long Jump. 

Other individual top performers for the girls' team included sophomore Aniyah Mosley, who earned third place in the 400 Meter Dash and fourth in the 200 Meter Dash; sophomore Aniyah Jones, who placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles and third in the 300 Meter Hurdles; junior Leah Lemon, who finished second in the 100 Meter Dash and sixth in the 200 Meter Dash, and senior Shackera Douglas, who took third in the 100 Meter Dash. Sophomore Emma Ramsingh earned top-ten finishes in multiple field events, including the High Jump, Discus and Javelin events, while Nyajah Davis took third in the Triple Jump. 

The Chiefs dominated the competition in relays, taking first overall in both the 4x100 relay (Douglas, Lemon, Aniyah Jones, Akerah Jones) and the 4x800 (Baldwin, Sinclair, Opalinski, Dugarte). The team also took second in the 4x400 relay, clocking a time of 4:05.78.

On the boys' side of the competition, junior Sam Mrky led the way for the Chiefs, winning district titles in the Boys 200 Meter Dash with a time of 21.76 and the Boys Pole Vault, clearing 14-03.25 for the win. Juniors Davon Kiser and Japrince Gaines also earned top finishes in the meet. Kiser was the district runner-up in the 100 Meter Dash and finished close behind Mrky in the 200 Meter Dash with a fourth-place overall finish. Gaines took second in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:58.43 and also secured a solid fourth-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash. 

Senior Gary Pache and junior Jackson Crozier were high scorers for the Chiefs in field events, earning third overall in the Pole Vault and Shot Put, respectively.
