Clinic

Students are not permitted to carry medication in their backpack/bag during the school day. Any prescription medication that students need to take throughout the school day must be kept in the clinic. 

Students can receive common over-the-counter medications in the clinic as long as the Health Information Form  has been filled out and signed by both the student’s physician and parent/guardian. A new form is required each year.

• Fever of 100.4 degrees or higher
• Persistent cough
• Vomiting and/or diarrhea - 2 or more episodes in the past 24 hours
• Excessive fatigue 
• Severe cold symptoms causing the student excessive discomfort (sore throat, runny nose, congestion) 
• Yellow drainage from the eye

In order to return to school, your student must be fever free for 24 hours. This means having a temperature less than 100.4 degrees without any fever-suppressing medications, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), or any cold/flu medications that contain those ingredients.

If your student has a chronic health condition (such as life-threatening allergies, diabetes, asthma, seizure disorder, etc., please contact the nurse for additional forms and to discuss your student’s condition and needs for school. 

If a student is not feeling well throughout the school day, he/she is to come to the clinic and be assessed by the nurse. The nurse will call a parent if the student needs to be picked up. If the nurse does not think it’s necessary for the student to be dismissed (example - the student has a headache and hasn’t eaten or drank anything today), the nurse will provide interventions and send the student back to class. If a parent would like to pick up the student regardless, they will need to call or email attendance.

If the nurse is off campus, students are to report to student affairs for assistance.
 

If your student has been diagnosed with a concussion, please notify the school nurse with all doctor’s orders and academic accommodations. If your student plays a sport, please notify the coach as well.

If your student is an athlete, they must complete the Return to Play protocol through our athletic department.

A sports physical (EL2 Form) is required annually to try out and participate in all athletic programs at Cardinal Gibbons. Eligibility for athletic programs, sports physical forms, and all other instructions can be found at the link below.
