2019-2020 Academic Calendar

Please review the 2019-2020 Academic Calendar to be aware of all holidays, early dismissals and Mass days. 

Other school functions and events can be found on our Daily School Calendar. Events are always being added and updated, so be sure to check back frequently in order to stay up-to-date on everything happening on campus!

All calendars are subject to change. 

Student Orientations/ Technology Training

All students are required to attend an Orientation and Technology Training session during the week of Aug. 12-16. Requirement differ by grade level; please consult the list below for each grade level's requirements. Click here for a full schedule of Orientations and training sessions. 

FRESHMEN
All freshmen students must attend:

  1. Technology Training/iPad Orientation- Each session is broken up by last name; please see the schedule on our website to determine your child’s designated training session. Only students need to attend. Uniforms are not required.

  2. Orientation-The Freshman Orientation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the gym. Parents and students must attend. Uniforms are required. 

  3. Freshman Preview Day- Freshman Preview Day will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, and all students are asked to report to their first-period class at 7:55 a.m. Only students need to attend. Uniforms are required. 
     

TRANSFER STUDENTS
All transfer students, regardless of grade level, must attend:

  1. Orientation- Transfer students and their parents must attend the Orientation session on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the gym. Uniforms are required. 

  2. Transfer Breakfast/ Technology Training- Transfer students must attend the Transfer Breakfast and Technology training on Friday, Aug. 16; students should report to the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m. Parents are invited to attend the Transfer Breakfast, but do not need to stay for the Technology Training. Uniforms are required.
     

SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS AND SENIORS
All sophomores, juniors and seniors who are returning students must attend:

  1. Orientation- All sophomore, junior and senior students must attend their designated Orientation session on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Technology Training will be held during the orientation. 
     

Please note that if your student is an incoming freshman or transfer student and is unable to make their designated Technology Training session, you must email techticket@cghsfl.org in order to register for the make-up session on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 2:30-5:30 p.m. in the Technology Center. Students who do not register will not be able to participate or receive their iPad.

First Day of School

Classes for the 2019-2020 school year will begin on Monday, Aug. 19, for all students. Students should arrive to their first-period class no later than 7:55 a.m., in full uniform.

Uniforms

All students are expected to be in full uniform every day, unless otherwise specified. Full uniform includes: an official Cardinal Gibbons polo shirt; khaki or navy shorts or pants; Sperry shoes, in the specified model and color. Please note that on Mass days, all students are required to wear the long uniform pants, so each student should own at least one pair of these.

On Fridays, students are permitted to wear club, athletic or spirit t-shirts, instead of the uniform polo. An assortment of spirit shirts can be purchased in the Campus Store.

Additionally, students enrolled in Physical Education must own the official Cardinal Gibbons PE uniform, which consists of a grey t-shirt and red gym shorts. PE uniforms are available for purchase in the Campus Store.

Students may also purchase official Cardinal Gibbons sweaters and outerwear to wear during the school day, but students must be wearing the Cardinal Gibbons polo underneath.

The Cardinal Gibbons Campus Store is located in Building A, Room 101.

On regular school days the Campus Store is open from 7:40-8:30 a.m. & 2:40-3:15 p.m.
During early dismissal days, the Campus Store is open from 7:40-8:30 a.m. only.

Friday, Aug. 9, 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 10, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 16, 7:30-10:30 a.m.
Saturday, Aug. 17, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Student Drop Off & Pick Up

All parents who are dropping off a student should enter the Cardinal Campus through the main gate, accessible from 47th street. As you enter the student parking lot from 47th street, please form two lines and follow the directions of the Campus Security team. Please note that all parents must use this front gate; the rear gate located off of Bayview Drive is reserved for student use only.

Traffic in the surrounding area may potentially be heavy during the first few weeks of the school year, due to the proximity of other local schools. Please plan accordingly, as your child is still expected to be in their homeroom by 7:55 a.m. each morning, despite traffic conditions.

The main parking lot gates are locked promptly at 8:00 a.m. each morning; in the event that your student is arriving late, you may drop them off in the circular driveway outside of Gibbons Hall. Your student must then proceed into the Main Office, where they will be checked in.

Please bear in mind that you may pass through a number of school zones during your commute. Please use caution while driving through the Coral Ridge neighborhood, and please obey all posted speed limits, both in and out of school zones.

Once the school day has ended, please enter campus through the front gate, and, once, again form two lines. We advise parents to notify their student of their arrival to avoid traffic jams in the parking lot. Students must be picked up and dropped off on campus and we ask that parents do not pick up or drop off students in front of St. John the Baptist Church or anywhere along 47th street or Bayview drive.

We kindly ask that all parents and student-drivers respect our neighbors and their property and refrain from parking on lawns or in open driveways.

Parent Logins

During the Technology Training session, students will be given access to PlusPortals, where they will be able to check grades and access teacher-generated content, and Point of Sale, which allows students to load money onto an online account to purchase items from the cafeteria and Campus Store.

After students have had their Student PlusPortals account set up, parents will receive an email—within approximately a week—that contains instructions on how to set up their own Parent PlusPortals account, which will allow them to view their child's grades. 

Students will set up their own Point of Sale accounts at their Technology Training session, meaning, parents do not need to register separately. Parents will use the account login information created by the student. For more information regarding using Point of Sale, click here. 

Student ID Photos

Photos for students IDs, as well as the yearbook, will be taken during Orientation sessions on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Students should be in full uniform and proper appearance for their photo. Senior students should have already scheduled their senior portraits with Munoz Photography.

Fall Sports Tryouts

Tryouts for Fall sports have already begun, if your child wishes to participate in a Fall sport, click here. 

Please note that in order to participate in any of our athletic programs, you must be registered on FamilyID.

Summer Reading

All students are expected to have their respective Summer Reading assignments completed prior to the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 19.

School Supplies

There is no set list of supplies that students are required to purchase. On the first day of classes, teachers will notify students if they need to purchase any additional supplies for their class. All supplies are determined on a teacher-to-teacher basis. 

Clubs and Organizations

Students will be able to join clubs and organizations at the beginning of the school year. During Welcome Week we will host Club Day, where students will have the opportunity to get more information about each respective club during their lunch period.

Some clubs or organizations may require membership fees.
