Christian Service Opportunities

The following service opportunities are available in our local community.  The churches are listed with their respective ministries that are in need of assistance.  Please note, "community service activities are not school activities and Cardinal Gibbons does not mandate or direct any specific location or locations in the community where these services are to be performed.  Students are free to select the location where they wish to perform community service so long as the location and the activity meet the requirements of the school.  Cardinal Gibbons does not operate or control the locations where students choose to perform community service and consequently the school, its agents, and affiliates do not assume responsibility for any injuries, damages, or losses incurred in the course of performing these services in the community.  Students perform these services at their own risk."

A1A Marathon - Water Stop - Students are needed to assist with the water station on Sunday, February 18th.  Please arrive by 4:45 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.  Duties will include filling water cups in advance and clean up after the race.  For more information, please contact Patrick Gent: (954) 249-3246; email:  patrickgent@bellsouth.net.

Mary Help of Christians Fish Fry - Students are needed to assist at the MHOC Fish Fry (2/16, 2/23, 3/1, 3/8. 3/15, and 3/22).  Volunteer responsibilities include helping with set up of tables and chairs, refreshment and dessert servers, bussers, and clean up after the event.  If you are willing and able to help, please contact Mrs. Moffa at dmoffa@bellsouth.net.

St. Coleman's Italian Festival - Students are needed to assist with the event.  If you are interested , please us the link to sign up: https://italianfest.org/volunteer-registration. Kids of Love Expo, Thurs-Friday, Feb 15-16, 3-8 pm and/or Saturday, Feb 17, 9 am-7 pm (In Person) - Help check in runners, pass out shirts and swag bags and work sponsor booths for the A1A Publix Marathon, Kids of Love 6K, and Kids of Love Fun Run at the Broward County Convention Center (1950 Eisenhower Blvd, Ft. Kids of Love 6K & Fun Run, Sunday, Feb 18, 5 am-1 pm (In Person) - Volunteer opportunities include handing out water, cheering on runners, start/finish line, food tent, end of race village, and more at various locations along A1A (start/finish line is at 1100 Sea Breeze Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316). Book Explorers - a program through the City of Ft. Lauderdale that trains teens to be mentors and read to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade students after school.  If you are interested in volunteering, please visit ftlcity.info/bementors.  For questions, please contact Zoie Saunders at zsaunders@fortlauderdale.gov.

Cafeteria Tray collection -  Juniors, for the second quarter, can earn direct hours for assisting the cafeteria by collecting trays (at least 10) at the end of your lunch period.  Students can earn 1 hour per stack (limit one hour per day) and you can earn a maximum of 10 hours per month.  Please be sure to use the sign in sheet in the back of the cafeteria to record your hours.  At the end of the month, Mrs. Eichholtz will add your hours.
