Faith & Service

Throughout the academic year, our Cardinal Gibbons student body celebrates monthly school-wide Masses, including Holy Days of Obligation.  Our individual grade level classes also celebrate Mass within their designated class retreats.  Our Eucharistic celebration is at the heart of who we are as a Catholic community.

Mass is also celebrated weekly in our Holy Family Chapel, located in Ott Hall, as well as daily prayer opportunities before school begins each day.  The Chapel serves as a more intimate space for our students to pray and reflect. 
 

Students are provided with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation twice per semester in the Chapel of the Holy family during the student’s Theology classes.  On days designated for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we have priests come to hear confessions, or provide the opportunity to speak with those students that seek guidance who are not of the Catholic faith.

Students are not required to participate in the sacrament on these days, but are encouraged to meditate or reflect quietly in the Chapel on these designated days.

At the beginning of the school year, seniors are selected to be commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers.  In order to be considered for this honor, the student must be a senior, a member in good standing at their Roman Catholic parish, be up-to-date in his/her Community Service commitment and complete the Eucharistic Ministry training.  The selection committee consists of members of the Theology Department, the Dean of Campus Ministry, and members of the administrative leadership team.  The Rite of Commissioning is celebrated during an all-school Mass.
