Remembering Former Faculty Member Judith Green
Erin Herbert

With great sadness, we share news of the passing of Judith V. (Gee) Green, a beloved member of the Cardinal Gibbons family. Judy passed away at home, surrounded by her children and loving husband Walter, due to complications with her kidneys.

Judy was born on July 22, 1940, in Dearborn, Michigan. She attended Olivet College and majored in Education and Biology. While at Olivet College, Judy met the love of her life, Walter R. Green. They married in August of 1961 and had three children, Gail, Carrie and Christopher. They moved to Florida, and Judy began teaching biology at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Judy, or Mrs. Green, as she was known to so many, brought biology to life in her classroom, and her love of teaching was apparent each and every day. She was an accomplished teacher who began numerous educational programs at Cardinal Gibbons, including the John Pennekamp program where she would take her class to the Keys to learn about the ocean and coral reefs, as well as the Sea Camp program, where she would take seniors to Big Pine Key to study marine biology. She was the first to teach Advanced Placement biology at Cardinal Gibbons and also served as the head of the Science Department and an advisor for the Exchangettes.

Judy was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had five grandchildren: Katie Songer, Andrew Green, John Songer Jr. (2011), Anthony Cirelli and Alexander Green. If you knew Judy, you knew all about her grandchildren and what they were doing. Whether she was babysitting them or watching them play sports, Judy was always involved in their lives and was very much loved by all of her grandchildren. Grandma, as they called her, always had a smile on her face, and she never left her family without an “I love you.”

Judy retired in 2000 and moved to Sapphire, North Carolina, where she and Walt would make a home in the mountains. She loved her family and was always happy when her grandkids would come up to visit. She had a love of sports and loved watching the Marlins and the Panthers. In her free time, Judy loved painting and relaxing in the mountains.

In loving memory of Judy, her family has established a scholarship fund. To make a gift to the Judith Green Memorial, click here or mail your gift to:
