Writing and Research

At Cardinal Gibbons High School, we believe strong writing and research skills are at the heart of academic excellence. Through intentional instruction, peer collaboration, and creative inquiry, students learn to think deeply, write clearly, and express their ideas with confidence and integrity. Our Writing & Research program empowers students to communicate with purpose — across disciplines, faith perspectives, and real world contexts.

Faith in Expression

At the core of our Writing & Research program is the belief that communication is a form of service. Students learn to use their voices responsibly — to promote understanding, share truth, and live their faith through words and scholarship.

Research & Writing Lab

During F Block, students have dedicated time to visit the Research & Writing Lab — a quiet, focused space for academic growth. Here, students conduct research, draft essays, collaborate on projects, or receive tutoring from faculty and peers. This flexible, supportive period helps students manage workload, meet deadlines, and strengthen academic habits.

Gibbons W.R.I.T.E.S.

Writing and research are woven through every subject at Gibbons. From science labs to theology reflections, students practice expressing ideas clearly, citing evidence, and connecting learning to faith and ethics. This cross-curricular approach ensures graduates can think critically, communicate ethically, and advocate for truth in every field.

Chiefs Writing Center

The Chief Writing Center is Cardinal Gibbons’ hub for writing and research support, available to both students and faculty. This Center has been developed to elevate student writing and research across all disciplines while supporting teachers in delivering high-quality instruction. Survey data revealed that while students show creativity and enthusiasm, they struggle with grammar, structure, source evaluation, and connecting research to arguments. Teachers also expressed a desire for professional development, shared resources, and aligned expectations across departments.
