2026-2027 Summer Reading & Course Assignments
Summer Reading for English Courses
In keeping with Cardinal Gibbons High School’s college preparatory curriculum, all students enrolled in a core English course are required to complete summer reading assignments prior to the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Summer reading assignments are due at the beginning of the school year through each student’s core English course.
Students enrolled in AP Language and Composition (11th Grade AP English) and AP Literature and Composition (12th Grade AP English) will complete separate, course-specific summer reading assignments, which are listed below. Elective English courses taken in addition to, or outside of, a student’s core English course (such as Creative Writing, Dual Enrollment English electives, Reading, Yearbook, Semantics, etc.) do not require additional summer reading assignments.
Summer Assignments
In addition to required summer reading, students enrolled in select Advanced Placement and honors-level courses are also responsible for completing required summer coursework prior to the start of school. These assignments are intended to prepare students for the rigor and expectations of their courses and are considered a required component of the class.
Courses with required summer assignments include:
- AP World History
- AP U.S. History
- AP European History
- AP Precalculus
- Algebra 2 Honors (not required, but highly recommended)
- Precalculus Honors (not required, but highly recommended)
