Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
About the Program
Cardinal Gibbons High School is proud to partner with Barry University’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program to offer an in-depth Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification pathway. This program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin a rewarding career in emergency medical services. Through classroom instruction, hands-on experiences, and clinical training, students gain the expertise needed to respond to medical emergencies and provide life-saving care in high-pressure environments.
What to Expect:
- Guest Speakers: Engage with industry professionals, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and healthcare leaders. These guest speakers share real-world insights into the field and provide valuable networking opportunities for aspiring EMS professionals.
- Field Trips: Experience emergency medical services firsthand by visiting local fire stations, ambulance services, and hospitals. Field trips allow students to see the day-to-day operations of EMS professionals in action, and often provide opportunities to observe live emergency situations.
- Hands-On Labs and Clinicals: Gain practical experience in well-equipped labs and clinical settings. Students will practice essential EMT skills, such as CPR, first aid, patient assessment, and trauma care, before applying them in real-world clinical rotations in hospitals and emergency medical settings.
- Externships: Students will participate in hospital clinical rotations and fire department ride-alongs to gain hands-on experiential learning. These externships provide an invaluable opportunity to work directly with EMS teams in the field, enhancing their skills in real emergency situations while gaining a deeper understanding of the critical role EMTs play in patient care.
- Certifications: Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to earn their Emergency Medical Technician certification through the state of Florida, setting them on the path to entering the EMS workforce or in preparation for college. Additional certifications, such as CPR and First Aid, are also included as part of the curriculum.
