Computer Science Pathway
About the program
The computer science pathway offers high school students an in-depth exploration of the field, blending hands-on experience with the Raspberry Pi device platform and real-world datasets analysis, including industry recognized data science competitions, to foster innovation and creativity. Students will engage in practical team and cross-curriculum projects, enhancing their problem-solving and coding skills. An internship with Motorola further enriches this experience, offering real industry exposure. This comprehensive approach prepares students for both technology careers and college-level computer science programs.
What to expect:
- Competitions: Attend various competitions, such as CodeJam, American Computer Science League, CodeChef High School, HackerRank High School, and more.
- Guest Speakers: Participate in guest speaker lectures from various individuals in the computer science field.
- Field Trips: Students will attend virtual field trips to the National Museum of Computing virtual tours and the Museum of Science, as well as an exploratory field trip to the University of Miami’s E-Sport Lounge.
- Hands-On Learning: Students will participate in practical, hands-on projects designed to apply programming skills and enhance problem-solving abilities through Javascript and Python programs. These activities provide valuable real-world experience.
- Capstone Project: Over three years, students will develop a Computer Science Portfolio that encompasses a variety of works related to coding and programming.
- Certifications: Students will have the opportunity to earn a Python certification in programming languages and technology tools.
