Saint Joseph Calasanz was born in Aragon, Spain in 1557. Well educated, he became a priest and exercised his ministry in Spain. He later dedicated himself to the education of poor boys at Rome, Italy. He founded the Piarist Fathers, a religious order of priests and Brothers dedicated to that work in 1617. He endured many trials, especially the calumnies of those who were jealous of his success. He died in 1648, and his feast day is August 25.
