Guidance
Philosophy
The Cardinal Gibbons Guidance Department is concerned with the academic development and personal well being of all students. It offers assistance with course selections, credit requirements, standardized testing, college planning, financial aide, job placement, and other school-related issues, as well as personal issues. These Guidance services are made available to all students (unless a parent or guardian notifies the school in writing of any objections). Parents and students should be aware of the following:
• When students submit, through Guidance, applications for college, scholarships, summer programs, athletic programs, or other programs, Guidance will automatically release and include a copy of their high school transcript, which includes courses completed, grades and credits earned, and standardized test scores.
• Seniors must turn in all completed college applications to the Cardinal Gibbons Guidance Department according to the schedule provided in the college-planning packet. The school will then mail the application, together with the required supporting documents (high school transcripts, school profile, etc.) in one complete packet.
• It is the student’s responsibility to notify the Guidance Department if he or she wishes additional information, such as new grades and/or updated transcript, to be sent to a particular college as the year progresses.
• Cardinal Gibbons High School is a member of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and supports NACAC’s “Statement of Principles and Good Practice”. Therefore, the school will, when appropriate, notify colleges of any significant changes in the student’s academic or personal status between the time of application and graduation. This includes, but is not limited to, a schedule change, a significant drop in grades, suspension, and/or dismissal.
• Cardinal Gibbons High School will provide colleges to which a student applies with whatever information is requested regarding that student.
