The Cardinal Gibbons athletic program has much to offer the high school student-athlete. With over 27 teams, our campus is the place to be after school throughout the entire year. You can see a full list of sports offered under the tabs for Fall Sports, Winter Sports, and Spring Sports. Accepted students receive a "special interests" form. Mark sports you are interested in and the appropriate head coach will receive your name and information. Check out Fall 2011 practice starting dates. See the Athletic Forms page for the required forms (health and parental permission).
Our teams have quite the facilities to call home: a 1,200-seat air-conditioned gymnasium, indoor practice courts; six tennis courts; a six-lane track; a wrestling room; and fields for baseball, softball, football, soccer, and lacrosse. Coral Ridge Country Club plays host to our golf teams. The Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex (Hall of Fame Pool) hosts our swim, dive, and water polo teams. And, our cross country team hosts meets at Mills Pond Park. All of our teams play host to every level of competitive event. Gibbons is a member of the BCAA (Broward County Athletic Association), which is one of the largest and most competitive conferences in the country, with 32 high schools. We are also a member of the FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association), which organizes the state series for over 700 schools.
Athletes at Cardinal Gibbons are encouraged to be well-rounded. So many of our athletes achieve success in a variety of other areas: National Honor Society, top rankings in their graduating class, student government, Silver Knight nominees, and National Merit Scholars. With community service involvement, and a host of various clubs to choose from, the Gibbons athlete develops leadership skills on and off the playing fields.
Our dedicated coaching staff of over 90 is extremely well-qualified. Gibbons coaches have been recognized as Hall of Fame and Coach of the Year honorees. Their backgrounds are varied: from the many alumni who return to work at their alma mater, to the numerous college and professional athletes who enjoy coaching the Chiefs.
Competitively, the Gibbons Athletic Department is proud of all of its District and Regional titles, and its 50 State Championships. Our program has been among Broward's best since the school opened in 1961, spanning nearly three generations now. Many of our current athletes are the children of Gibbons stars of yester-year.
Join the exciting, winning tradition. Have fun along the way. Be a part of the next generation to don the Red and White of the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs.
