Wrestling Team Has High Hopes for the season

The Cardinal Gibbons Wrestling team has high hopes for the year and is off to a great start. Chris Williams, Ozzy Ley and Michael Lopouchanski return as state medalists who contributed to the Chiefs 5th place finish at the state tournament last year. The rest of the line up fills in nicely for the Chiefs as they continue the winning tradition. Read the Sun Sentinel article on Broward wrestling here.

Boys Basketball Wins Kreul Classic

The BOYS BASKETBALL team defeated Winter Haven 49-47 in the finals round to win the 2016 Kruel Classic BCAA Challenge!
After defeating Coral Springs Charter by 21 points in the first round, the Chiefs advanced to take on Potomac School (Virginia).  
The Chiefs beat the visiting Virginia team by 2 points advancing to the finals round vs Winter Haven, where the Chiefs secured another two point victory. Ricardo Jackson and Gertatus Urbonavicius led the Chiefs in scoring (13 and 11, respectively), while Kris Boogle added the necessary toughness on defense.

Finish Second as Tournament Runner Up

GIRLS BASKETBALL finished as the runner-up in the 2016 Kruel Classic PSI 91 Challenge.  
The girls team finished 2-1 in the tournament challenge defeating Sidwell Friends School (Washingtin D.C.) and Coral Glades by double digits. The Chiefs fell to Ft. Lauderdale by 5. Click here for the 2016 Kruel Classic Brackets.

The Annual Baseball and Hockey Alumni Games took place last week.  Fun was had by all - Good Times, Memories, Stories and Action!

Girls Soccer Continued Success on the Field

Girls soccer team earns Top Seed In District Tournament with 6-0 win over North Broward Prep. Five players scored for the Chiefs. KK Pawelczyk led with 2 goals and 1 assist. Alanna Lutchmansingh, Alexia Duhaime, Teagan Duenkel, and Alysa Vazquez each added a goal. Ryleigh Brown and Sarah Arcella split the shutout. Gibbons overall record: 11-2-2.
Chiefs beat the 4th ranked team in the state, Montverde Academy, at the Montverde Women's Invitational Tournament.

Girls Soccer Defeats District Rival Pine Crest 5-4

Girls Soccer Undefeated at 4-0

The Girls Varsity Soocer Team (4-0) remains undefeated after defeating district rival  
Pine Crest 5-4 last night on the road at Best Field. KK Pawelczk and Brandi Orlando
each scored twice and had an assist to lead the Chiefs.  Alysa Vazquez scored the game winning goal with 13 seconds remaining in the match.  The JV squad (right) won in a 8-0 blowout before the varsity match- up began. 

Football Team Playoff Bound

Finishes Regular Season with One Loss Record - Headed to Playoffs

The football team beat Deerfield Beach 21-23 this past Friday to cap off an 8-1 regular season. The team finished the year as the 5A Region 4, District 16 Runner-Up. They travel north to Riviera Beach to play Suncoast Community High School (4-4) this Friday, November 11th at 7:00 PM. The Chiefs have qualified for the playoffs 11 of the past 17 seasons under former Head Coach Mike Morrill. New Head Coach Matt Dubuc returns the Chiefs to the playoff scene after a two year absence. GO CHIEFS!

Swimming & Diving

Aqua Chiefs Compete in the Post Season

FHSAA Regional Meet - The girls team finished 4th overall while the boys team had a 9th place finish. The Aqua Chiefs had two Regional Champions: Savannah Yates in the 100 Breast Stroke and Zach Allen in Diving. Hudson Coldren finished second in diving to teammate Zach Allen who repeated as regional champion in defending his two-time state championship. Other state qualifiers were:
Girls Medley Relay: Russell/Yates/OUdell/K. Gest
Girls 400 Free Relay: Russell/Yates/Rodriguez/K. Gest
Kelly Gest qualified in the 100 & 200; Julianna Russell qualified in the 200 & 500; Savannah Yates qualified in the 50 & 100 Breast Stroke; Olivia Udell & Adriana Rodriguez qualified in the Relays (Ryder/Bergamini/B. Gest/Mandziak as alternates).
They will all compete in the state tournament meet this Saturday, November 12th in Stuart, Florida.  GO AQUA CHIEFS!

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY- Four girls set their PR (Personal Record) while competing at the state meet, leading the team to an 11th place finish in the state meet. Congratulations to our runners on another great season of Cross Country Runnung!

Julius Boros 9th Place finish at State Tournament

Boys Golf - State Championship Tournament

Congratulations to Julius Boros on a strong a finish in the Boys Golf State Tournament. Julius shot a 76 and 77 to finish 9th in the state finals, capping off a great season. Julius led the boys team throughout the year to an undefeated regular season and was the lone qualifier for the state tournament. The boys team returns four starters, including Julius, next year.  Way to go Julius and the 2016 Boys Golf Team!

Hall of Fame Inductee - 2016 Broward County Sports Hall Of Fame

 Congratulations to Coach Pettineo on being inducted into the 2016 Broward County Sports Hall of Fame.  The induction took place Tuesday evening, October 25th, 2016. Pictured with Coach Pettineo is is wife Lisa with their children Frankie (class of '09) Gina (class of  '04) and their side.  Also inducted in this year's class was Keyon Dooling. Keyon played basketball for Cardinal Gibbons from 1995-1997.  
Prior Cardinal Gibbons inductees include: Louise Croce (Volleyball); Duffy Dillon (Swimming); Ryan Hunter-Reay (Motorsports); Laurie Fleming Rowley (Tennis); Ryan Shealy (Baseball).
