Chiefs Shut Out Flying L's

The Boys Soccer team defeated Fort Lauderdale Friday afternoon 2-0 on the Flying L's campus. Chris Delinois and Nick Huber scored for the Chiefs. Nicholas Ketchum recorded the shutout.  12/1/12

Seven Elected to Hall of Fame

The Cardinal Gibbons Athletic Hall of Fame will be hanging seven new plaques in the gym lobby this January: John Bloom '74, Mary Dunne Hembd '89, Bruce Link '92, Michael Werle '97, Jodi Kenoyer Zeman '99, Coach Jim Scott, and the 2002 & 2003 Wrestling Teams. The induction ceremony will start at 4:00 on Saturday, January 12th in the gymnasium. A reception in the lobby follows the ceremony.

Cross Country Girls Race at State Finals

The Gibbons girls took 22nd on Saturday morning at the State Championship in Tallahassee at Apalachee Regional Park. They were led by senior Morgan Rodriguez's 37th place finish in 19:44 over 5K in Class 3A. She was followed by: Victoria Vigarino (21:30), Catherine Haley (22:00), Stephanie Belina (22:17), Shanese Langsett (22:25), Nicole Clark (22:25), and Loretta Norton (22:50).  11/19/12

Football Dominates Coconut Creek 42-0

The Chiefs (8-2) wrapped up their season with a 42-0 victory over Coconut Creek (1-9) on Friday night. Ryan Giaratano and Peyton Bender combined for five touchdown passes. George Rushing caught three, with Trevon Lee and Christian Blake catching the others. Michael Ferguson added a rushing TD. Giaratano also made six PAT kicks. The game served as Gibbons' Homecoming and Senior Night.

Homecoming Game Tonight

The school hosts alumni from all years tonight with the Football team's annual Homecoming game. The Alumni Association hosts a tailgate event on the baseball field starting at 5:00. The Chiefs kickoff their season finale, against Coconut Creek, at 7:00 under the lights. Watch the game live online. Gibbons holds a 7-6 all-time record against the Cougars, including a 31-0 victory last year. The Classes of 1972, 1992, and 2002 are celebrating their reunions this weekend.

Cross Country Girls Win District

The Girls Cross Country team won their district on Thursday at Mills Pond Park by one point over Archbishop McCarthy. Senior Morgan Rodriguez won the 5K race in 20:27. Other Gibbons girls were: Victoria Vigarino (21:17), Catherine Haley (21:41), Stephanie Belina (22:13), Shanese Langsett (22:27), Loretta Norton (23:00), Corina Martinez (23:58). The Boys' team took runner-up behind Pembroke Pines Charter, winning a tiebreaker over McCarthy.

Football Falls in District Tiebreaker

The Football team lost to Dillard High 6-0 tonight in a district tiebreaker. The Chiefs will end their season this Friday, hosting Coconut Creek at 7:00 in the school's Homecoming game.  11/5/12

Monday Night Football at Gibbons

The Chiefs host a district tiebreaker tonight at 7:00. Dillard and Hallandale play first, with the winner advancing to take on Gibbons. Each game is a quarter, with a 20 minute warmup between. The victor takes home a spot in next week's regional playoffs as district runner-up.

Volleyball Regionals in Miami Tonight

The Lady Chiefs travel to Monsignor Pace tonight to take on the Lady Spartans in a regional quarterfinal match. Admission is $7. Gibbons Volleyball is the only team in Florida to play in regionals all 39 years since the state series began.

Championship Saturday for the Chiefs

The Girls Volleyball team plays for the district title at 3:00 today against Chaminade at Pine Crest. The Swimming & Diving teams compete in districts starting at 3:00 in timed finals at Nova Southeastern University. And, the Football team takes to the gridiron at 7:30 versus American Heritage School in Plantation looking for its eighth straight victory in a key district matchup. The Chiefs are 2-3 all-time against the defending district champion Patriots, falling 35-10 in 2011. Gibbons Football is 7-0 for only the fourth time in school history (1973, 1990, 2001). Hurricane Sandy pushed back the volleyball match and the football game.
