Winter Sports Sun Sentinel All County Selection

Wrestling Team Finishes Third at State Tournament

The Chiefs wrestling team finished third in the FHSAA 1A-State wrestling championship tournament.  Led by senior Chris Williams' state championship, the Chiefs had 3 state finalist and 7 wrestlers placing in the top six. The Chiefs were narrowly edged out of a second place finish. The Chiefs wrestling program has won 5 team state championships and now has 19 different state champions and 26 indiviaul state totles won.  1A - Team Scores  -  Bracket Results

Wrestling Wins 19th Regional Title - State Tournament Up Next

The Cardinal Gibbons Wrestling team won regional title over the weekend. The Chiefs held off Somerset Academy by 2 points to win the team's 19th regional title crown (7th consecutive). Amadeaus Concepcion (145lbs), Osi Ley (160lbs), Michael Lopouchanski (182lbs) and Chris Williams (195lbs) led the way for the Chiefs, each winning the regional title in their respective weight classes. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament. The Chiefs qualified 11 wrestlers for the state tournament and is positioned to make a run at their sixth state title. The FHSAA State Tournament takes place this weekend (March 3-4) at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, FL.

State Bound - Girls Basketball


The Lady Chiefs defended their regional title with a 55-45 victory over Miami Gulliver Preparatory School.  The Chiefs return to the FHSAA Class 5A State Final Four Tournament in Lakeland. The semi finals round is set for Wednesday, February 22. The Chiefs will take on the winner of Florida High (Tallahassee) and Fernadina Beach at 2:00 pm. The semi-finals winner will move on to the 5A state championship game on Saturday, February 25 at 10:00 AM.  All state tournament games are held at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland, FL.  

Wrestling - District Champs Again!

29th District Championship for the Wrestling Program

Congratulations to the wrestling team on winning another district championship. The Chiefs dominated the tournament with all 14 starters finishing 1st or 2nd and qualifying for the regional tournament next weekend. The Chiefs will host the regional tournament on Friday and Saturday (2/24-2/25), where they look to defend their regional championship form last year. The top four finishers in each weight class at the regional tournament will move on to the state tournament. The Chiefs look to qualify as many wrestlers as possible, in the hope of adding a 6th State Championship to programs resume.

Girls Basketball - Win Again - Will Host Regional Finals This Friday

The Lady Chiefs defeated St. Andrew's School of Boca 66-43 in the regional semi-finals last night. With the win, the Chiefs return to the regional finals, where they will last year's title and return to the state Final Four tournament in Lakeland. Wrestling Team Host District Tournament

Team poised to make another title run

The Chiefs wrestling team will host the FHSAA 1A District 14 Tournament Wednesday (2/15). The six team district will hit the mat starting at 3:00 PM. 
The finals round is set for a 5:00 PM. The Chiefs, returning to the post-season as
the defending district and regional champions, look to position themselves for a state title run. The wrestling team has won 28 District Titles, 18 Regional Titles and 5 State Championships under Coach Pettineo. The top four placers in the district tournament will advance to the regional tournament. The Chiefs also play host to the regional tournament next Friday and Saturday (February 24-25). The top four placers in the regional tournament will qualify the state tournament at the Sliver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.

Girls Basketball - Looks to Defend Regional Title, Return to State Tournament

Regional Semi Finals

The Lady Chiefs basketball team host the regional semi-finals match up Tuesday night (2/14/17) at 7:00 PM.  The Chiefs take on St. Andrews of Boca Raton, as they look to defend their FHSAA Class 5A Regional Title.  After earning a spot in state final four tournament by winning the district and regional titles, Coach Gordon has led this year's squad to a 17-6 record, a BCAA Big 8 bid and the district championship.  Since Coach Gordon's arrival in 2008, the Chiefs are 152-70 to date with two district titles, two BCAA Big 8 bids, 1 regional title and a state final four appearance.  In route to this year's success, senior Ayanna Armstead scored her 1,000th career point alongside the strong play of Sun Sentinel Fab 5 selection Deja Antoine.

Wrestling Wins Again!

The wrestling team won the BCAA Championship for the 14th time! All 14 of the Chiefs grapplers placed in the tournament with nine making it to the the finals round. Six Chiefs took home individual championships. Girls Soccer

The girls soccer team defeated North Broward Preparatory School 3-0 to win the FHSAA 2A District 14 Title. Alysa Vazquez scored twice and Amy Barra scored once to lead the Chiefs. KK Pawelczyk had two assists and Ryleigh Brown earned the shut out victory. In winning the team's ninth district title Lady Chiefs improved their overall record to 14-3-3. They will now host the regional quarterfinals against American Heritage (Delray) on Thursday at 7:00 PM.  GO CHIEFS SOCCER!

Wrestling Team Has High Hopes for the season

The Cardinal Gibbons Wrestling team has high hopes for the year and is off to a great start. Chris Williams, Ozzy Ley and Michael Lopouchanski return as state medalists who contributed to the Chiefs 5th place finish at the state tournament last year. 5 Players Make First Team All County

Boys Basketball Wins Kreul Classic

The BOYS BASKETBALL team defeated Winter Haven 49-47 in the finals round to win the 2016 Kruel Classic BCAA Challenge!
After defeating Coral Springs Charter by 21 points in the first round, the Chiefs advanced to take on Potomac School (Virginia).  
The Chiefs beat the visiting Virginia team by 2 points advancing to the finals round vs Winter Haven, where the Chiefs secured another two point victory. Ricardo Jackson and Gertatus Urbonavicius led the Chiefs in scoring (13 and 11, respectively), while Kris Boogle added the necessary toughness on defense.
