Hall of Fame Induction Tomorrow at 4:00

Cardinal Gibbons will induct its eighth annual class into its Athletic Hall of Fame tomorrow at 4:00 in the Gym. The class includes three athletes, two coaches, an administrator, and a state champion team: Pauline Milano, Kieran O'Connor, Marty Grady, Joanna Sahm, Matt DuBuc, Marcy Meyer, and the 1980 tennis boys. Learn more about them below.  1/21/11

Wrestlers to Compete for BCAA Title in Coral Springs

The Chiefs will compete in the BCAA Championships this weekend at the Coral Springs City Gym, starting at 4:00 Friday. Gibbons Wrestling has won the tournament twelve times, between 1993 and 2009.

Girls Soccer District Semifinal Today

The Girls Soccer district semifinal versus Pembroke Pines Charter planned for yesterday has been rescheduled for today at 4:30 at Hallandale High. The Lady Chiefs will be playing for a spot in their 10th straight regional tournament.  1/20/11

Cheerleaders Win Fourth Straight BCAA Title

The CGHS Competition Cheer squad won their fourth straight Broward County Athletic Association championship on Saturday at Dillard High. The Chief Cheerleaders are the only school to win a division at the event all four years it has existed. Gibbons' girls won in 2008 and 2009 in the non-tumbling category, last year in large tumbling, and this year in the extra-large tumbling category. Senior Melody Saunders now holds a unique distinction: competing with the first four BCAA champion teams.  1/19/11

Field Lights Approved by City

Cardinal Gibbons went before the city's Planning & Zoning Board at Ft. Lauderdale City Hall last night to apply for approval for athletic field lights. The board approved Gibbons' request by a vote of 6-2.  1/19/11

Cross Country Runners Honored at Banquet

Seniors Macy Huskey and Blake Peterson were recognized with the team's Most Valuable Award at the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club on January 9th. The following were honored as the best runners in their class: freshmen Victoria Vigarino and Tony Testa, sophomores Morgan Rodriguez and Mike Hampel, and junior Jason Belina. Freshman Stephanie Belina and senior Blake Stenftenagel were given Most Improved awards.

Girls Soccer District Tournament at Hallandale

The Lady Chiefs take on Stranahan this afternoon at 3:00 at Hallandale High in Hallandale Beach. As the second seed, win a win they'll play in the semifinal on Wednesday at 7:00 against either Pembroke Pines Charter or Hallandale. The District 15-4A Championship will be held Friday at 5:00.  1/18/11

Basketball Boys Host Dillard Friday

The Chiefs host Dillard Friday night, with JV at 6:00 and varsity tipping off at 7:30. The five-time state champion Panthers (13-2) are ranked first in Broward County by the Sun-Sentinel and 2nd in the state (Class 5A). The Chiefs are ranked 5th in 4A. Check out the complete state rankings at Florida Hoops. The Gibbons freshman team will wrap up their season with a visit from St. Thomas at 4:00. Gibbons students are admitted free. Other students: $2. Adults: $4.

Wrestlers Win Third Invitational

The Chiefs won the Msgr. Farrell Dave Ironman Invitational on Saturday on Staten Island by over 60 points, defeating 23 schools. Gibbons had five winners: Jamel Morris (103), Andrew Wisdom (125), Mardel Gabriel (152), Josh DaSilveira (189), and Robert Whittaker (HWT). Josh was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
