St. Coleman Students Win Brain Brawl
Five eighth graders from St. Coleman School (Pompano Beach) won CGHS' annual Brain Brawl on Saturday, October 8th in the Media Center. Mary Help of Christians (Parkland) was runner-up. St. Mark's Episcopal (Ft. Lauderdale) finished third. St. Ambrose (Deerfield Beach), and St. Andrew (Coral Springs) also competed.
The trivia competition, hosted by the National Honor Society, is a Jeopardy-style event. Any team member can ring in, and there is no penalty for a wrong answer. Categories were Mathematics, Literature, Science, Current Events, and Social Studies. As the winners, the St. Coleman students each received a $300 discount towards their Gibbons tuition for next year, a plaque for St. Coleman's, and trophies. "Brain Brawl is a completely student-run event. A student heads up running it, coming up with questions, arranging food, and putting together gift bags for all those who attend. At Cardinal Gibbons, we fully immerse a student in a leadership role," said Mr. Mark Zmuda, NHS moderator. 10/10/11
